Donal O’Callaghan

Donal O’Callaghan ChinaportalDonal is a graduate and chartered Chemical Engineer with over thirty years experience in business, spanning manufacturing, engineering and construction industries. He has worked extensively abroad, mainly in the Middle East, Africa and North America.

As a businessperson, Donal has strongly encouraged the fostering of both business and cultural relations between Ireland, Europe and Asia. He was Vice Chairperson and subsequently elected Chairperson of the Ireland China Association from 2002 to 2006.

In 1990 he co-founded Callaghan Engineering, a multi-discipline engineering and project management firm specialising in projects in the biopharmaceutical, commercial, healthcare, educational, leisure and government agency sectors.

He has vast experience in project management and in cost control of multi-million euro projects. In addition, Donal has acquired specialist expertise in environmental consultancy, principally in relation to air and water pollution control and is a professional Consultant to an Bord Pleanala.

As a businessperson, Donal has strongly encouraged the fostering of both business and cultural relations between Ireland, Europe and Asia. He was Vice Chairperson and subsequently elected Chairperson of the Ireland China Association from 2002 to 2006. In the role, he visited China on a number of occasions, both as a member of Government Trade Delegations and also as Managing Director of Callaghan Engineering. Donal’s first visit to China was in 1998 and hence his incisive insight into Chinese business and cultural operations. He has given many presentations regarding his experiences in China, including “Doing Business in China”, to an Enterprise Ireland Seminar and also a similar presentation to the Cork Chamber of Commerce.

Donal brings an experienced, focussed, efficient and pragmatic approach to every task he undertakes. He has gained vast experience through his work overseas and also through his business dealings with multi-national and local Irish companies/agencies.
